Beachy Weekend

Another lazy weekend at the beach was exactly what I needed. The weather wasn't ideal - a bit windy and not sun-soaking hot - but walking along the beach was still wonderful.

Hopefully I can bring a smile to your face today by showing you the Aussie's first ever attempt at skim boarding (Thanks, Aussie for being a good sport and letting me post this. You definitely got much better as the day went on - although you couldn't have gotten worse).

Torquay has some good shopping and I managed to score some good finds at the Rip Curl outlet.

A hoodie (yes, I call it a hoodie even if it is hoodless) and a dress. The dress was originally $70 on sale for $10!

I started my week off with a new-to-me recipe for no bake chewy chocolate peanut butter granola bar. Based on the fact that the Aussie inhaled three of them in record time, I'd say the recipe is a repeater.

I also made mango salsa - mango, black beans, cilantro, jalapeno pepper, green pepper and lime juice.

And a berry smoothie with greens this time.

Our dinner was certainly eclectic with smoothies and mango salsa, but it was still darn tasty.

The Workout

I walked 4ks and went to bodypump. After a week off I think I'm going to be in p-a-i-n tomorrow.

The Weekend

This weekend we were rebels and completely changed up our juice - it doesn't even include beets (pretty shocking stuff). We decided to make a green juice. I have had green smoothies, but never green juice. Truthfully, my green smoothies were very fruity (hello, pineapple & mango) and the greens were spinach so they always tasted pretty tropical (fun fact - my roommate in law school used to get asked about the weird green drinks I brought to class).

The goods:

Rainbow chard, spinach, 2 granny smith apples and a lime.

The juice was intense (as you can see below), but it wasn't too bad.

After inhaling the juice, we packed up for a weekend at the beach. My in-laws just purchased an amazing motor home with plenty of space for all the intruding kids.

The campground was right on the beach, so the Aussie and I got to relax while looking at this view:

On Saturday I went to my first ever golf tournament - the Victoria Open. It may have been the absolute best one to go to, because we weren't stuck behind ropes and instead allowed to follow the players up the fairway. I basically pretended I was playing as I cruised my way closer to the hole.

I may have pushed my luck with the sun on Sunday because we were at the beach for a few hours and I apparently forgot to reapply on my thighs so they're looking a bit crispy. The water was cool, but refreshing. I even rode a few waves on the boogie board. Fortunately the in-laws brought theirs, because we neglected to bring ours (I blame the Aussie who was too busy worrying about golf). But we're heading back for another beach weekend on Friday, and this time the boogie board and the skim board will be packed.

Today I decided to walk to the Prahran Market to see if I could score some organic greens (seriously I wish Coles would just start selling them). Okay, I may have also been interested in checking out Mr Nice Guy's Bake shop. But atlas it wasn't meant to be, because the market is closed on Monday.

Instead I walked back home and had a fabulous new favourite creation of sourdough toast with peanut butter and banana with local honey drizzled on top. I will certainly be recreating this meal.

Lunch was an unpictured tempeh sandwich, since I have taken a lot of pictures of my tempeh sandwiches and they are all the same - toast, mayo, avocado, tomato, spinach, and tempeh.

Dinner will involve a juice (featuring beets - hey you didn't expect me to keep neglecting them) and whatever else I can find in the pantry. Some days you feel motivated, and some you do not.

Today also included some job applications, so send some good vibes my way!

The Workout

I did a 3k walk. Workouts this week are going to minimal, and it killed me today not going to bodypump. Sometimes you have to do what's best for your health, even if it isn't best for your mental sanity.

Off to organise the mess that is my apartment,

Sand & Sugar Sunshine

Today started out with a jab & cross a la boxing. I actually like that the class starts at 8:10, because it prevents the inevitable sleep in that would otherwise occur (uhh, although I make no comment regarding the regularity of Saturday naps post boxing).

After all our aggression was released, we headed to our local coffee shop for scones and jam. Just like this. Then we spent a bit of time vegging and within a few hours I was going stir crazy. I finally convinced the Hubs that an impromptu trip to the beach was needed.

When he finally agreed (seriously it took a bit of convincing), I packed my beach bag in 1.2 seconds.

And we were off.

I googled different beaches, and found an article on secret beaches around Melbourne. I opted for #15 Edithvale.

The coolest part of the beach was definitely this:

I thought maybe the town organised it for the kiddos, but then we saw a group pull it up the beach and take it to their shed (see above picture of a shed - very Australian thing) and deflate it. I would like to be adopted by those people! I contemplated asking if I could give it a go, because it looked like so much fun (yes, I'm still a 12 year old, possibly even 5 year old, at heart), but couldn't bear to take the chance for fear of rejection (which would obviously be age discrimination).

My day may have also included a bit of sugar sunshine.

Don't judge me. For the record I generously shared with the Aussie and he didn't even have to ask.

There were big plans of the Aussie spending hours in the kitchen making vegetable wellington along with roasted root veggies and homemade mushroom gravy. But he somehow conned me into settling for Thai takeout instead (shame on you, Hubs!). I was weak and caved at the thought of glorious coconut rice.

But I will be getting my vegetable wellington soon!
